Kevin Hulett appreciates the camaraderie of pie making.
For the past five years, members of The Presbyterian Church of Fremont have worked together to produce hundreds of pies. They then sell the pies and use the proceeds for missions work.
This marks the sixth year for the annual Apple Pie Mission Fundraiser.
And once again this year, the Presbyterian pie-makers plan to roll out another plethora of pies. They’re asking area residents to pre-order their pies, which will be available for pickup between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in the church at Nye and Linden avenues.
Would-be buyers may purchase apple and cherry pies, which can be baked right away or frozen for future use. The pies cost $10 each. Church members also will sell homemade apple cider by the quart jug on the day of the pie pickup.
Last year, the pie-makers sold 2,916 of the made-from-scratch pies. They hope to top that number this year — with a goal of about 2,000 apple and 1,000 cherry pies, Hulett said.
